The scorecard
Tally: Theo 3, SiteGround 2, even 1, split 2. The rounds test who does the work after launch, what the owner keeps and what it costs each month, across SiteGround's three ways to a website: WordPress on a hosting plan, the drag-and-drop Website Builder that comes with the same plans, and Coderick AI. SiteGround's prices, terms and help pages were read on siteground.com on October 20, 2026, and rechecked on October 21. Round 3, on who does the SEO and growth work after launch, decides the verdict.
| Round | Theo | SiteGround | Result |
|---|---|---|---|
1. Who builds the site | From a chat or your current address, with the site's public pages rebuilt as a draft | WordPress installed for you, or a drag-and-drop builder with AI text, then built by you; Coderick AI drafts from a chat or copies up to 5 pages from a URL | Theo |
2. Who makes changes after launch | Typed in chat on every plan, on monthly chat credits | The WordPress dashboard or the drag-and-drop builder, or the AI agent on monthly tokens; in Coderick, a click in Visual Edit or a chat request on credits | Even |
3. Who does the SEO and growth work | Theo, weekly, on Starter and Pro | You, with AI agents that act when asked; SEO services sit outside free support | Theo |
4. Sticker price | $29.99 to $129.99 a month, no term | Hosting from $2.99 a month prepaid for 12 months, renewing from $17.99, or from $24.99 a month billed monthly; Coderick AI from $10 a month, as of October 2026 | SiteGround |
5. Site plus the work, per month | Starter, one monthly price with the weekly work inside | In no plan; AI Studio Plus adds an SEO agent, and the work stays yours | Theo |
6. Online store | Connects your Shopify or Wix store on every plan; the store has its own subscription | WooCommerce inside the hosting plan; Stripe payments on Coderick paid plans | SiteGround |
7. Domain and email | No domain or email included; yours stay with their current providers | A domain free for the first year (a limited-time offer as of October 2026) and unlimited mailboxes on every hosting plan | Split |
8. Ownership and leaving | Text and images on every plan, code on Pro; monthly, so no term to lose | Files, database and Coderick code to download; money back only within 30 days | Split |
Round 1: Who builds the site
SiteGround offers three starting points. On a hosting plan, its site wizard installs WordPress for free, and the theme, the pages and the words are then yours to put together, with the AI agent's help if you ask for it. The same plans include SiteGround's drag-and-drop Website Builder, with templates and AI-written text, where you place and fill each page yourself. SiteGround's AI builder, Coderick AI, drafts a site or a small web app from a chat description. It can also rebuild an existing site from its address, but it copies up to 5 pages, and SiteGround's guide warns that links to the pages it skipped return a page-not-found error until you add them.
Theo starts from either a chat description or the address of the site you have now. Given an address, Theo reads the public pages, posts and images there and rebuilds them as a draft, and anything it missed is a chat request away. The preview is usually ready within minutes, and that first build is free. From a description alone, Coderick's draft and Theo's are alike. From an existing site, Coderick copies five pages at most, and on a hosting plan, in WordPress or the Website Builder, the building is yours.
Round result: Theo.
Round 2: Who makes changes after launch
On SiteGround hosting, changes happen in the WordPress dashboard or the Website Builder's editor, made by you or whoever you hire, and the plans apply WordPress updates for you. They also include an AI agent for WordPress that makes a change when you describe it in a chat. It runs on AI tokens, with 20,000 free each month for hosting customers. Coderick AI offers two ways to make a change, plus a code editor. Visual Edit lets you click text, a button or an image in the preview and change it on the spot, and those manual edits use no credits. Bigger pieces, such as a menu or a footer, go through Coderick's chat, which spends credits that reset each month and do not carry over.
Theo has no editor to click into. On every plan, a change is a message: you, or a collaborator you invite, describe it in the chat, and Theo makes it. Changes come out of a monthly allowance of chat credits, which is 1,500 on Basic, 4,500 on Starter and 7,000 on Pro. Top-up credits roll over and never expire. Coderick's click-to-edit saves credits on small fixes, and Theo's chat saves learning a dashboard, so for the changes you ask for, neither comes out ahead.
Round result: even.
Round 3: Who does the SEO and growth work
SiteGround's own FAQ leaves SEO, content and site traffic to you. It says its managed WordPress hosting frees you to focus on those parts of the website. The AI agent for WordPress writes the page titles and short descriptions Google shows in results, plus keywords and image descriptions (alt text), when you ask, and the Website Builder lets you set titles and descriptions by hand. On its Plus tier, SiteGround's AI Studio adds an SEO Expert agent that reviews a page and answers SEO questions when asked. Each one waits for a request and hands back a result. SiteGround's terms of service list SEO services and web design outside its free support, which it may help with at its discretion, subject to availability and extra fees. No SiteGround page read for this comparison sells a person to research keywords or write new pages for a customer after launch.
On Starter and Pro, that after-launch work is what the plan pays for. Every week Theo looks up the searches that competitors show up for and you do not, drafts service pages and posts aimed at those searches, and fixes technical problems on the site. Each draft waits in the Growth tab, Theo's running list of every page and fix, until you publish it or switch auto-publish on, and a weekly email counts what was added. None of that work uses chat credits.
Of the 787 WordPress sites with search data in Theo's audit of 6,861 small business websites, 35 percent got an estimated zero visitors a month from Google search (The State of Small Business Websites 2026). The report has no SiteGround row, so the figure covers WordPress sites on every host, not SiteGround's in particular. It describes traffic, not the reason for it.
Picture an electrician who works alone and runs a WordPress site on SiteGround's StartUp plan. The AI agent will rewrite the title Google shows for the services page, on request. A page on whole-house surge protectors, though, exists only once the electrician writes it or prompts for it, between jobs. On Theo Starter, the Growth tab might hold that surge protector page one week and a post on why a breaker keeps tripping the next. After that might come a page of home electrical statistics with their sources. Each one waits for a look before it goes live.
None of those pages will fill the work calendar in the first month. Search traffic builds over months, as Google finds and ranks new pages. In the first 30 days, expect the site live, the first pages published and the sitemap submitted so Google can find each new page. Search Console, Google's free report on your site, starts to show your pages turning up in results, and calls follow as the pages climb.
Round result: Theo.
Round 3, continued: a page that work produces
Wendroth Electric, an electrician's site built by Theo, shows what a page for one job can look like. Its whole-house surge protector page puts the town, Fort Collins, in the headline and sets a call button and the line "$395 installed" on the first screen, beside a photo of an electrician checking an open breaker panel. The headline, button and price line are pictured below. See the live site.

Round 4: Sticker price
SiteGround quotes its hosting by the month, and its plan pages price a 12-month term paid in advance. The first-term price applies once, and after that term StartUp renews at $17.99 a month. Its checkout also sells each plan on a 24-month prepaid term, and month to month at a higher rate, shown below. Coderick AI is sold month to month, or yearly at a lower monthly rate.
Theo bills monthly with no term. Each figure below is per month, with the billing term it needs, as of October 2026.
| Plan | Price | Renews at |
|---|---|---|
SiteGround StartUp (1 website, 10 GB) | $2.99 a month, prepaid for 12 months; $24.99 a month, billed monthly | $17.99 a month after 12 months |
SiteGround GrowBig (unlimited websites, 50 GB) | $4.99 a month, prepaid for 12 months; $34.99 a month, billed monthly | $29.99 a month after 12 months |
SiteGround GoGeek (unlimited websites, 100 GB) | $7.99 a month, prepaid for 12 months; $49.99 a month, billed monthly | $44.99 a month after 12 months |
Coderick AI Essential (1 project) | $10 a month, billed monthly | No change |
Coderick AI Plus (5 projects) | $20 a month, billed monthly | No change |
Coderick AI Pro (10 projects) | $40 a month, billed monthly | No change |
Theo Basic | $29.99 a month, no term | No change |
Theo Starter | $69.99 a month, free for the first 30 days | No change |
Theo Pro | $129.99 a month, no term | No change |
Round 4, continued: after the first term
On the sticker, SiteGround is below Theo. Every hosting plan's first 12- or 24-month term and the two lower Coderick plans cost less than Basic, and so does StartUp billed monthly, at $24.99. After the first term, StartUp renews at $17.99 a month, still under Basic; GrowBig renews at the same $29.99 a month as Basic, and GoGeek, at $44.99, sits between Basic and Starter.
Round result: SiteGround.
Round 5: The site plus the work, per month
This round prices having the weekly pages and fixes done, not just made possible. No SiteGround plan includes that work. Its plans include the AI agent and free monthly tokens, and AI Studio Plus adds the SEO Expert agent, but each one answers the task you set: the choosing, the briefing and the publishing stay with you.
On Theo the work is part of Starter, at $69.99 a month and free for the first 30 days. Hosting is in the same bill, with no extra charge for the pages and fixes. StartUp renews at $17.99 a month; what Starter adds on top pays for the work being done for you, not just the tools to do it yourself.
Round result: Theo.
Round 6: Online store
A SiteGround store can live inside the hosting plan. Its WooCommerce hosting uses the same three plans and prices, with WooCommerce, the WordPress store plugin, installed for you. On Coderick's paid plans you can connect a Stripe account and take payments, which Stripe processes. Either way, SiteGround adds no store subscription on top of the plan.
Theo runs no checkout of its own. A Shopify or Wix store connects on every plan, and its products, prices and stock appear on the Theo site with a cart, while the buyer pays in the store. That store is a second subscription, paid to Shopify or Wix on top of the Theo plan, which is why this round goes to SiteGround.
A WooCommerce store on SiteGround has three ways forward. Theo's first suggestion is moving it to Shopify, which connects to the Theo site directly (how the Shopify connection works). The next is leaving WooCommerce on the SiteGround plan under an address of its own, such as shop.yourdomain.com, with Theo on the main domain linking to it. Failing both, the SiteGround site and store stay, and a separate Theo site goes on a subdomain such as blog.yourdomain.com.
Round result: SiteGround.
Round 7: Domain and email
As of October 2026, SiteGround's hosting plans include a .com, .org or .net domain free for the first year (its WordPress hosting page calls this a limited-time offer), after which the regular renewal fee applies. Every hosting plan also includes unlimited email accounts at your domain at no extra cost. Coderick's paid plans include mailboxes too.
Theo includes neither a domain nor email. If you already own the domain, it stays with the company you registered it with, SiteGround included, and Theo only points it at the new site. That touches the website settings, not the email ones. Where the two share a setting, Theo lists the extra entries to add so mail keeps arriving. With no domain yet, you can buy one inside Theo, registered in your name and yours to keep if you leave.
Mail is the catch for a SiteGround owner. Mailboxes on a SiteGround hosting plan live on that plan, and SiteGround's terms say stored data is deleted on termination and that it has no duty to forward email afterward. Move the mailboxes to an email provider before you cancel the hosting plan. For a business registering its first domain, SiteGround's free first year and mailboxes count in its favor. For one whose domain and email already work, both leave them where they are. The round splits between those two cases.
Round result: split.
Round 8: Ownership and leaving
SiteGround lets you download the files. Its help center says every website owner can download the site's files and database by hand, and Coderick's paid plans let you download the project's code.
Leaving partway through a 12- or 24-month prepaid term is where SiteGround can cost you. By default, plans renew on their own for the term last ordered, and money back ends after 30 days. Even within those 30 days, a renewal canceled after its new term starts still costs the first month, and a Coderick plan is refunded only if it is unused. Once a service ends, its content is deleted, and SiteGround may keep backups for up to 90 days but is not obliged to.
On Theo you own the pages, words and photos, and you can cancel whenever you like. There is no prepaid term to lose: the site stays live until the end of the paid period, and the cancellation confirmation shows the date it ends, so save your text and images before then. Pro adds read-only GitHub access to browse and copy the code; Basic and Starter have no code access.
Theo's monthly bill means leaving never costs the rest of a term, while SiteGround's low hosting prices need a 12- or 24-month term paid up front. SiteGround hands every owner the files, and Theo hands over the code on Pro. Each takes one half of this round.
Round result: split.
How to move from SiteGround to Theo
Theo rebuilds from the live address, so nothing has to be exported from SiteGround first. Moving a website to Theo covers redirects and timing in more detail.
- Run the free audit on the SiteGround address to record its estimated search traffic, the number the new site has to beat. Then give Theo the same address for a matching preview, and refine it in chat.
- Leave the SiteGround plan and its mailboxes running while the new site is built. Once Search Console is connected, SEO repair on Starter and Pro redirects old addresses that still earn search visits to their new pages, and on Basic each redirect is one chat request.
- Point the domain at Theo, both yourdomain.com and www.yourdomain.com, wherever it is registered, with domain forwarding and parking switched off. SiteGround keeps serving the old site until the records update, usually within a few hours.
- When the domain is live, sign in with Google so Theo can set up Google Analytics and Search Console. Theo then submits your sitemap on every plan and, on Starter and Pro, switches the growth work on. After moving any mailboxes off the hosting plan, turn off auto-renewal at SiteGround.
The bottom line
Theo wins the tally, three rounds to SiteGround's two, with one even and two split, and it wins Round 3, the round the verdict rests on. On Starter and Pro, the keyword research, the drafted pages and posts and the technical fixes happen every week and wait in the Growth tab for your approval. SiteGround's hosting plans and Coderick AI hand you tools, from an AI agent to click-to-edit, and leave the search, content and traffic work with you. An owner who wants the work done belongs on Theo Starter or Pro, and one who wants the site and hosting with changes by chat belongs on Basic. Prices and terms as of October 21, 2026.
The short answer
Pick Theo if
You want new pages and fixes arriving in the Growth tab each week on Starter or Pro, going live when you approve them or on their own with auto-publish on. You would rather type a change than learn the WordPress dashboard or a drag-and-drop editor, and you prefer one monthly price with no term to choosing between a price prepaid for 12 months and a higher month-to-month rate. Basic is $29.99 a month for the site and hosting. Starter, with the weekly growth work, is $69.99 a month and free for the first 30 days, and Pro is $129.99.
What SiteGround leaves to you
Building the site, in WordPress or the drag-and-drop builder, then the SEO, the content and the traffic. Its AI agent and Coderick's chat help one request at a time, on monthly AI tokens or on Coderick credits that do not carry over. The regular-price renewal, the domain after its free year and the mailboxes when the hosting ends are yours too.
Frequently asked questions
Is Theo better than SiteGround?
Yes, for an owner who wants the search work done. On Starter and Pro, Theo drafts new pages and fixes each week without being asked and holds them for your approval. SiteGround's hosting plans and Coderick AI leave that work to you, with AI tools that act when you ask. SiteGround's lower sticker price and its store inside the hosting plan take two rounds, one round is even and two are split. None of those five rounds is about getting the business found.
Does SiteGround do SEO for you?
Not as a service listed on its plan pages. Its AI tools write page titles, descriptions and image alt text, or review a page, only when you ask, and its terms list SEO services as outside free support, with any help at its discretion and for extra fees. On Theo Starter and Pro, the research, the new pages and the fixes are part of the plan.
Is Coderick AI the same as Theo?
No. Coderick AI builds sites and small web apps from a chat. After launch, you make small changes yourself in Visual Edit or its code editor, or ask its chat, which spends monthly credits that do not carry over. Nothing in Coderick starts search work on its own. Theo builds from a chat too, and on Starter and Pro it also drafts new pages and fixes every week, with no chat credits used.
Is SiteGround cheaper than Theo?
On the sticker, yes. StartUp is $2.99 a month prepaid for 12 months and renews at $17.99 a month, or $24.99 a month billed monthly, and Coderick AI starts at $10 a month, as of October 2026. Theo bills monthly with no term: Basic is $29.99 a month, Starter is $69.99 and free for the first 30 days, and Pro is $129.99. Starter and Pro include the weekly search work, which no SiteGround plan includes.
Can I keep my SiteGround domain and email if I switch to Theo?
Yes. A domain registered at SiteGround stays there, and you point both yourdomain.com and www.yourdomain.com at Theo, with domain forwarding and parking switched off. Theo changes only the website settings, so mail keeps flowing; if the website and email share a setting, Theo shows the extra entries to add. Mailboxes that live on a SiteGround hosting plan end with that plan, so move them to an email provider before you cancel it.
What happens to my WooCommerce store on SiteGround if I move to Theo?
Theo suggests moving the store to Shopify first, since Shopify connects straight to a Theo site on every plan. The second option keeps WooCommerce on the SiteGround plan at an address of its own, such as shop.yourdomain.com, with Theo on the main domain. If neither suits, the SiteGround site and store stay put, and a separate Theo site goes on a subdomain such as blog.yourdomain.com.
Will I lose my Google rankings if I move from SiteGround to Theo?
Rankings can shift after any move, and no one can promise where they settle. Keeping the same domain keeps the change small. Once Search Console is connected, Theo submits the sitemap on every plan so Google can find each new page. On Starter and Pro, SEO repair redirects old SiteGround addresses that still get search visits, and on Basic you ask for each redirect in chat. A sitemap invites Google to crawl the pages, and indexing stays Google's call.
Does Theo have a free trial, and how does it compare with SiteGround's?
The first Theo build is free, and you see the preview before choosing a plan; Starter is then free for the first 30 days. SiteGround's hosting plans come with a 30-day money-back policy: a new plan canceled within 30 days is refunded, though SiteGround may deduct the standard fee of a free domain. A site built on Coderick AI's 14-day free trial cannot be published, and a paid Coderick plan is refunded only if canceled within 30 days and unused since payment.
