FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
If you're comparing Theo with builders, freelancers, or agencies, this is the quickest way to see why Theo is the best option for a website that needs to keep working after launch.
How much does Theo cost?
We start with a free 30-day trial, no teaser pricing, no surprises, just a no-cost way to see whether Theo is right for you. After that, most businesses pay only $69.99/month, and that's fully tax deductible as a business expense.
For one low price you get your site, hosting, and weekly growth work, including regular blog posts, landing pages, SEO fixes, and updates. That ongoing work is included in your plan and never uses credits.
Your monthly credits are only for changes you ask Theo to make in chat. Starter includes 4,500 credits each month and Pro includes 7,000, giving you more room for larger requested changes. If you need extra capacity for a major project, you can add top-up credits.
Bottom line: $69.99 covers everything a normal business needs. The bigger plans give you more weekly output and more room for the changes you want Theo to make.
Is Theo a DIY website builder?
No, and that's the whole point.
Wix, Squarespace, Weebly, WordPress and all those other guys hand you a pile of tools and wish you luck. You're the designer. You're the writer. You're the SEO department. And even after all that work, none of them lift a finger to actually bring customers to your door. A site nobody can find isn't a business, it's a hobby.
I'm the opposite. You answer a few quick questions, and I design and publish the site for you. Then I keep going, writing content, optimizing for search, fixing what's broken, and driving real traffic on a steady cadence. My AI is a generation ahead of the template engines those builders run on, so the work is smarter and it keeps moving.
If you're coming from Wix, Weebly, WordPress, or Squarespace, you already know the hard part was never building the site. It's everything after. That's the part I take off your plate, from $69.99 a month.
What do I get in the subscription?
Think of it less like a software subscription and more like hiring an online marketing department, one who never sleeps, never needs your dev team, and starts at $69.99/month instead of $Thousands a year. You can even use links to the blogs I write for you as posts on your social media feeds, saving you even more time and money.
Compare that to the builders who lure you in at $11 or $16/month and then charge extra for the SEO (Wix's add-on alone runs $159/month), and still make you do the actual work yourself.
Here's something I'm especially proud of: I find the errors on your site and fix them myself. No ticket queue. No "let me loop in the developers." I know of a business that hired a $60,000 employee just to fix site errors, and she couldn't, because every fix needed the dev team to track down the right pages and prioritize the work, and they never did. I don't have that problem. I have every skill the job needs, and I'm the one doing it. That's the difference between a tool and an employee.
Plus, I don't ask for vacation days.
What happens after launch?
After launch, I keep publishing useful content, improving conversion paths, and handling maintenance so the site keeps getting stronger over time.
How do I update my site?
Want to add a product or image? Or change your address? Just log in and tell me what you want changed. I'll make the edits and make sure it works for all types of devices and browsers. Job done instantly.
Will my site be secure?
Every Theo site is built as a static website, which greatly reduces the number of ways it can be attacked. Every Theo site is also served over HTTPS with a valid security certificate. This encrypts the connection between your visitors and the website and helps prevent information from being intercepted or altered in transit.
Any payment goes through your already trusted payment provider, so no customer details are entered into or stored in your Theo site.
If someone emails you saying your site received a low security score, it's more than likely someone trying to sell you a fix. If you receive one of these reports, send it to us. We will review it and, where appropriate, make any changes at no additional cost.
Will I still have to manage the site every week?
No. I keep the work moving without turning your website into another weekly job.
Who is Theo best for?
I'm best for small businesses that want a clear website, better search visibility, and less owner time spent managing vendors.
How is Theo different from hiring an agency?
Agencies usually cost more and still require management from you. I combine the build, hosting, publishing, optimization, and maintenance in one ongoing system.
Can Theo help if I do not have a website yet?
Yes. I can launch your first site and keep improving it after it goes live.
Why didn’t my site go live?
If your new site shows a parked page, says “Not Secure,” or does not go live, start here:
- Connect both versions of the domain: the root domain (@) and the www version. Connecting only one can leave the other broken or insecure.
- Turn off domain forwarding and parking at your registrar, especially GoDaddy. Those settings can override Theo’s connection and show a parked page instead.
- Give DNS and the security certificate up to an hour to finish processing. A temporary “Not Secure” message will usually disappear on its own.
- Do not delete your MX email records while you change DNS settings. Removing them can stop your email service.
Your old site stays live until you change the domain’s DNS records, so there should not be downtime during the transition.
Why do I need to connect Google?
A one-click connection sets up the two essentials:
- Google Analytics
- Google Search Console
That gives Theo the information needed to understand how people are finding and using your site.
Where can I see Theo’s progress?
Your dashboard and weekly reports show the work I have completed, the changes made to the website, search and traffic performance, and the overall progress of the site.
What does Boost do?
Boost is a practical checklist of places where your business should have a listing or profile. It includes free directory listings you can complete yourself and optional paid backlink packages.
If you already have a listing, such as a Facebook Page, mark it complete or skip it. No need to do the same work twice.
Should I use the same email login?
Always sign in with the same email address you used to create your account. Using a different address can create duplicate accounts, websites, or trials.
Why does the preview panel say it’s “sleeping,” or go blank?
Your preview runs in a workspace that goes idle when you step away for a while, so when you come back you may see “Your preview went to sleep,” a loading spinner, a brief flash, or a blank panel for a moment.
None of this affects your live website, and none of your work is lost.
If you see “Your preview went to sleep,” click Reload preview and it will wake up in a few seconds. If it says “Waking your preview…”, just give it a moment. Cold starts can take up to a minute, and it will appear on its own, so there’s no need to reload. If the panel stays blank, reload the page in your browser.
How do I add my own photos?
Drag the photos straight into the chat, or click the + button in the bottom-left corner, then tell Theo where you want them used, for example, “Use this on the About page.” Your own photos will almost always look better than generated ones, and there’s no limit to how many you can add.
Will connecting my domain break my email?
Normally, no. Connecting your domain changes the records for your website and leaves your email settings alone. The main exception is if you have email-related records tied to the root domain, where changing an A record could cause issues. If you are unsure, email us and we will happily check your settings before you make the switch.
How long until I show up on Google?
Google usually takes a few weeks to find a new site, and ranking well for competitive searches builds over a few months. Connect Google Search Console in the Analytics tab and we'll submit your pages directly, which is the fastest route available. Anyone promising quicker isn't being straight with you.
Can I sell products on my site?
Yes. Connect your Shopify or Wix store and your products appear on your own site, with checkout handled securely by your store. You keep your existing inventory, payments and orders exactly as they are.
Why did I run out of credits?
Every month we allocate you a few thousand Chat Credits to update, amend or edit your site - the number is different for each plan. The reason you might have run out is you've been doing a lot of work on your site this month. But there's a couple solutions: you can pay to add chat credits to your account right now or you can wait for your new allocation next month. Either way, the ongoing work of getting you found continues.
How do I edit my site?
Just tell Theo in the chat box what you want changed, in plain English. There's nothing to drag, no template to fight, and no separate editor to learn. It makes the change and shows you the result.
Why can't I see the changes Theo made?
Some of Theo’s most valuable work happens behind the scenes. Things like Google descriptions, page speed, and the technical structure search engines read can improve without changing how your site looks. You can always see a summary of this background work in the Growth tab.
Can I move my existing site over without losing my Google ranking?
Yes. We bring your content across and set up redirects from your old pages to the new ones so your search ranking carries over. If you are also changing domains, there is an additional manual step to tell Google that the site has moved, and we are happy to help you with that.
Do you build on WordPress?
No. Theo builds and hosts the site itself, which is why there are no plugins, updates or security patches to manage. You keep your domain, and on the Pro plan you can export the full code at any time, so you're never locked in.
Do I need Shopify or Wix to sell on my site?
Only if you want customers to buy directly on your site. Theo never processes payments itself, so on-site selling runs through your store's secure checkout. If you sell somewhere else, Theo can link to your products there instead.
Can I keep selling on Etsy or my current store?
Yes. Your store stays where it is and your site links to it, with buy buttons or product pages pointing at your listings. You can also keep a store on a subdomain like shop.yourdomain.com. Buying happens on your store's platform.
Do I manage products in two places?
No. Keep managing products in your store like today. With Shopify, your site updates on its own when products change. With Wix, tap Refresh in the E-commerce tab after making changes.
What happens to my store when I connect it?
Nothing changes inside it. Inventory, orders, payments, shipping and customer records all stay in your store. Connecting just shows your products on your site, and you can disconnect anytime.
